Abstract

QMR-007 examines surah pairs among the Quranic surahs beginning with disconnected letters, or muqattaat.

The analysis considers pairs that share an opening initial and tests two simultaneous conditions:

  1. the shared initial occurs equally often in both surahs;
  2. the absolute difference between the surah numbers equals the absolute difference between their verse counts.

Across the fixed muqattaat population, two pair-letter associations satisfy the full criterion under DATA-001:

  • the Ra pair: Surahs 10 and 12
  • the Qaf pair: Surahs 42 and 50

A registered permutation test produces a small p-value for the full two-match result.

A targeted 15-rule multiverse correction also retains a small global-null minP result.

However, excluding the historically prominent Qaf pair weakens the signal substantially.

For that reason, QMR-007 remains:

Under Review

It is not classified as robust or as a discovery.

Research Question

Among muqattaat surahs sharing an opening initial, which pair-letter associations simultaneously satisfy:

  1. equal counts of the shared initial; and
  2. matching distances between surah numbers and verse counts?

For a pair of surahs A and B, the second condition is:

abs(surahA - surahB) = abs(verseCountA - verseCountB)

The fixed population contains 29 muqattaat surahs and 351 tested pair-letter associations.

Dataset & Counting Rules

  • Dataset: DATA-001
  • Methodology: METHOD-001
  • Views: RAW and BODY
  • Muqattaat surahs: 29
  • Fixed pair-letter associations: 351

For each eligible pair sharing an opening initial, QMR-007 records:

  • the count of the shared initial in surah A;
  • the count of the same initial in surah B;
  • the absolute distance between surah numbers;
  • the absolute distance between verse counts.

The full criterion requires both conditions simultaneously.

Deterministic Result

Exactly two associations satisfy the full criterion.

Ra: Surahs 10 and 12

Under RAW:

  • Surah 10 Ra count: 257
  • Surah 12 Ra count: 257

Their surah-number distance is:

abs(10 - 12) = 2

Their verse counts are 109 and 111, giving:

abs(109 - 111) = 2

Therefore the distance condition also matches.

Under BODY:

  • Surah 10 Ra count: 255
  • Surah 12 Ra count: 255

The equality remains intact.

Qaf: Surahs 42 and 50

Under RAW and BODY:

  • Surah 42 Qaf count: 57
  • Surah 50 Qaf count: 57

Their surah-number distance is:

abs(42 - 50) = 8

Their verse counts are 53 and 45:

abs(53 - 45) = 8

The distance condition therefore also matches.

Negative Control

Equal initial-letter counts alone are not sufficient.

A Sin-based comparison involving Surahs 26 and 27 provides a useful negative control:

the shared initial count can be equal while the surah-number and verse-count distances fail to match.

This demonstrates that QMR-007 is not merely recording equal initial counts.

Registered Permutation Test

The primary registered permutation analysis used 1,000,000 iterations.

For the full RAW result:

  • observed matches: 2
  • permutation exceedances: 403
  • p-value: 0.000403999596000404

The same primary count is obtained under BODY.

This is evidence under the registered null model.

It is not a universal probability for arbitrary Quranic numerical patterns.

Qaf-Exclusion Sensitivity

The Qaf relationship for Surahs 42 and 50 was already historically prominent before QMR-007.

For that reason, a sensitivity analysis excludes Qaf and recomputes the registered statistic using the remaining associations.

With Qaf excluded:

  • observed matches: 1
  • permutation exceedances: 31,555
  • p-value: 0.03155596844403156

This is a material weakening of the signal.

The contrast is therefore:

Analysis Observed matches p-value
Full primary analysis 2 0.000403999596000404
Qaf excluded 1 0.03155596844403156

The Qaf-exclusion result is one of the principal reasons QMR-007 remains under review rather than being classified as robust.

Robustness Variants

Two registered robustness variants were also evaluated.

For the full criterion:

  • R1 p-value: 0.000750999249000751
  • R2 p-value: 0.000286999713000287

With Qaf excluded:

  • R1 p-value: 0.03418796581203419
  • R2 p-value: 0.024571975428024573

The full result remains small under these variants.

The Qaf-excluded result remains much weaker.

These are sensitivity analyses on the same underlying data.

They are not independent replications.

Targeted Multiverse

A targeted multiverse was constructed from four predefined rule components, producing 15 nonempty conjunctions.

The QMR-007 primary rule corresponds to the conjunction labelled AD.

For the primary RAW/BODY analysis:

  • observed matches for AD: 2
  • rule-specific permutation p-value: approximately the registered primary result
  • targeted global-null minP result: 0.001473998526001474
  • AD ranked first in the targeted family

The corresponding robustness variants produced targeted adjusted values of approximately:

  • R1: 0.001487998512001488
  • R2: 0.000522999477000523

The appropriate interpretation is narrow:

the QMR-007 primary rule survives this targeted multiverse correction.

This result does not correct for every numerical rule that could be imagined after inspecting the Quranic text.

It must not be described as correction over the universe of all possible numerical patterns.

Prior Art

Important components of QMR-007 were already known.

Prior work reports:

  • the Qaf counts of 57 in Surahs 42 and 50;
  • the associated Qaf arithmetic;
  • equal Ra counts for Surahs 10 and 12.

Accordingly, Coran Codex does not claim novelty for those component observations.

During the present prior-art review, no earlier source was located for the exact combined QMR-007 formulation consisting of:

  • the shared-initial pair population;
  • equal initial-letter count;
  • matching surah-number and verse-count distances;
  • exhaustive evaluation across the 351 fixed associations;
  • the registered permutation analysis.

Failure to locate earlier work is not proof of novelty.

For that reason, the novelty status is:

Potentially Novel

rather than established novel.

Multiple Testing

Numerical Quran research presents a large potential researcher-choice space.

Possible choices include:

  • which initials to examine;
  • which surahs to pair;
  • which count equality to require;
  • which arithmetic relation to use;
  • which corpus representation to use;
  • which exclusions to make;
  • which combinations of conditions to report.

QMR-007 addresses part of this problem through a frozen permutation procedure and a targeted 15-rule multiverse.

That control is meaningful but limited.

It does not represent every possible numerical hypothesis that could have been formulated.

Interpretation Standard

Fact

Under DATA-001:

  • the Ra pair 10/12 has equal Ra counts;
  • its surah-number and verse-count distances both equal 2;
  • the Qaf pair 42/50 has equal Qaf counts;
  • its surah-number and verse-count distances both equal 8;
  • exactly two pair-letter associations satisfy the full registered criterion.

Statistical interpretation

Under the registered permutation model:

p = 0.000403999596000404

for the full primary result.

Under the targeted global-null minP correction:

p = 0.001473998526001474

for the targeted 15-rule family.

When Qaf is excluded:

p = 0.03155596844403156

under the primary registered permutation.

The exclusion sensitivity materially weakens the result.

Claim

QMR-007 has statistical support under its registered permutation model and survives the specified targeted multiverse correction.

Not claimed

QMR-007 does not establish:

  • robustness across every reasonable analytical choice;
  • independent replication;
  • correction across all conceivable numerical-pattern searches;
  • established historical novelty;
  • supernatural origin;
  • divine intent or theological significance.

No supernatural or divine conclusion follows from this result.

Why the Status Is Under Review

QMR-007 is not classified as robust for several reasons.

First, exclusion of the historically prominent Qaf pair changes the primary p-value from:

0.000403999596000404

to:

0.03155596844403156

Second, the targeted multiverse covers a defined family of 15 conjunctions, not the complete universe of numerical hypotheses.

Third, the robustness variants reuse the same underlying Quranic data and are not independent replications.

Fourth, some component relationships were already present in earlier literature.

These limitations justify statistical support at E2 while withholding E3 or E4.

Limitations

The permutation result is conditional on the registered null model.

Alternative defensible null models may produce different results.

The multiverse correction is targeted rather than exhaustive.

The prior-art search cannot prove absence of earlier formulations.

The Qaf-exclusion sensitivity shows that a substantial part of the full signal depends on a pair whose numerical properties were historically known.

Verdict

Status: Under Review

Evidence level: E2

Classification: Exploratory

Novelty: Potentially Novel

Discovery: No

The full registered result has statistical support.

The targeted multiverse does not eliminate that signal.

However, Qaf exclusion weakens the primary result to approximately the conventional 0.03 range, and the available robustness checks are not independent replication.

QMR-007 therefore remains under review.
